About SED Talks
Shore Economic Development is a year-round private initiative that promotes economic development and other improvements to quality of life on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. SED Talks are annual forums for presenting the successes of the past year and sharing transformational ideas to be implemented in years to come. As such, take-aways from the conference are truly action and group oriented.
Like TED Talks, SED Talks are devoted to:
Spreading big ideas.
Changing attitudes, lives, and, ultimately, our communities.
SED Talks is different from other forums and conferences. SED Talks provides a platform for Eastern Shore innovators, thinkers, and doers to generate and implement strategies that will help transform Maryland’s Eastern Shore, while preserving its distinct culture and heritage. The conference promotes a call-to-action to organize, harness, and mobilize the power and influence of high-level senior executives and business leaders at a regional and state scale. SED Talks believes when you put the Shore’s best and brightest minds together in one room—transformational change can occur.
Shore Economic Development is important. In recent years, the recession notwithstanding, the Shore’s economic development successes have waned. With an aging population, diminishing tax bases, and macro economic trends that predict increased challenges to rural economies, the public sector desperately needs the help and resources and cross-boundary capabilities of the private sector. As the Eastern Shore’s leading patrons, our mission is to foster cohesion, build consensus, and create a working coalition for the common good.
